In the article, "Should Everyone Get a Trophy?" by Lauren Tarshis, she talked about how kids get a trophy just for showing up to team practices. Our school system decided more than a decade ago to pass kids on to the next grade regardless of how successful they were on their report card.
Do you think kids should fail?

Should Kids Be Held Back?

Yes i think kids should be held back. If you can’t be held back then kids won’t do anything and they’ll just breeze through. Kids need to learn and earn the privilege to move on. Students should not be able to disrupt other kids from learning! They can’t just not do any work. They should be disciplined for their choices and actions by being held back.

An idea that supports my opinion would be kids should have to work their hardest at all time! Some kids don’t even try they just goof around and mess with their future. Those kids should be held back! Other kids try their hardest and still just don’t understand. For the kids that really do try and try to understand but still just don’t understand they should talk to the teacher and ask for help or they could even get a tutor but they shouldn’t be held back!

Being held back should not be classified as a fail but should be viewed as a second chance! Being held back is a chance to learn what you didn’t the year before its having a second chance at a good future, having a second chance for a good life! Being held back doesn’t make you a failure and no kid should think that they should be thinking about the second chance they will get to be better and to improve.

Kids need to be held back. In life you don’t just get a free pass you have to work for it and earn what you want! I personally would not like to just breeze through school! I would like to take the time and learn what i need to to have a good job and a good life. Public can affect you in your life later on. you need to know how to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide. If you don’t know how to then what good job can you get? You can’t even work at a gas station because for that you need to know how add, subtract, read, and write.

Everyone could argue both sides to this but kids really should be held back because you have to think about the kid and what would be best for their future. Kids don’t want to be held back no one would! You want to stay with your friends but are friends more important than your future? Friends that you probably won’t know in 20 years when you have a job and a life. Kids think that its “cool” to not do work and be a “rebel” but it really isn’t because when your older public school and having so many friends it isnt gonna matter anymore. So yes kids do need to be held back.
